Tough Times

What could have been.
The carnage. Shots by Mike Maxted

I was meant to be on the Gold Coast this weekend but it looked like it was going to be tiny for the contest and the waves looked altime here so I made the call to stay here for the swell.

It was'nt as big as forcasted chad and mitch we already over east for the contest so Dean Harrington flew in hoping to tow into some big pits. Saturday was a massive let down Sunday we traveled far south in search of a few spots getting a bit more swell. The waves were good I towed

Dean into to a couple of average waves early then he got a bomb just didnt make it. I went in to pick him up realised his shoulder was dislocated and he could'nt swim. I eventually got him on the ski lost two boards and almost my ski too. Took him to the beach and could'nt get it back in. A 4wd took him to the hospital they got bogged for half an hour finally arrived there they could'nt put it back in tranfered him in and Ambulance another 45 to the next hospital after about 4 hours from when it happend they got it back in. We had to drive the extra hour and wait for him at the hospital need less to say I did'nt get to catch 1 wave so yaeh I'm heading over east this weekend for the next contest at central coast to avoid any further miss haps.

weekender.

The EBB state round was heald at Mandurah wedge this weekend and were blessed with 2-3 foot offshore conditions. The crowd were treated to some of best Austaralian riders doing there thing in the clean punchy conditions. High scores were the order of the day with chad jackson clocking up a perfect 20 out of 20 in his semi final, but seemed to peak to earley and finished 3rd behind the young up and coming Alex Halsey and taking the final out world NO 1 Ryan Hardy.

I ended up surfing down the coast at the box conditions were clean 4 - 6 feet with guys like Mitch Rawlins and Brendon Backshall getting there first taste of the renowned BOx in 09.

Guys its been busy times I was in Hawaii for two weeks for the pipe contest. The waves were really good for the first two days of the event. The Aussie guys
were definatley the standouts in the solid conditions. Guys like Jake Stone, Toby Player, Dallas Singer and CHRIS WIL
SON cruised through the first two days
clocking up more tube time in heats than you do in seasons of free surfing.

The Final day came the waves 4 to 6 feet shifty some heats better than others
I got knocked out by Uri in the last couple of minutes of our heat but that is competition.

Again the Auzzie guys were in fine for Rawlins Hardy Winchester and the Players. Looked like with a bit of luck the title was anyones in the end It was between Hardy and Winny of the Oz guys Winny seemed to use all his waves up in and awesome semi final and just never got going in the final. It was Hardy's day in the end really good to see him back up the top and on the list of PIPE CHAMPS well done mate.

From there it was a rush we bailed back to Sydney for one of our close friends (Phill Gallagher) and his Now wife Cara Gallagher. The wedding was up near Coffs Harbour. It was a great couple of days fun was had by all maybe a little too much by Ben Williams who was dacked fell over an essky onto a seated Grandma and was left face down on the grass with his lolly bag hanging out the back. Other than the boys no one was too impressed.

Well back at home in WA now just getting ready for some waves here and then of to the Gold coast for the Ozzy Tour contest. I've been working with HB on the new Boards
for 09 and things are coming along very nice so stay tuned to this space for more info.
